About Young Adult Success Corps
Young Adult Success Corps (YASC) is an AmeriCorps program launched by NYC Service in coordination with the Department of Probation (DOP). Members will serve at City agencies or Community Based Organizations (CBOs) part-time from September 1st, 2023 - June 2024. YASC members will engage with their communities while developing work readiness skills, receiving supportive counseling through DOP, and exploring educational and career tracks. This experience will provide YASC members with valuable professional development and build a corps of civic leaders who will continue to tackle the City's challenges beyond their service year.

Young Adult Success Corps is not open to the general public. Due to its population, the Department of Probation does internal recruiting for members and candidates will only be able to apply through their probation officer.

What are the benefits of being a Young Adult Success Corps Member?
Living allowance of up to $15,750 (pre-tax) distributed evenly throughout the term
Members receive a MetroCard for commuting to and from service
Eli Segal AmeriCorps Education Award, valued at $3,447.50 upon successful completion
City Government exposure
Resume-building professional experience
Loan Forbearance and interest accrued paid on qualified student loans upon successful completion
On-site orientation and on-going monthly training provided by NYC Service
Additional training and professional support at host site
Childcare assistance, if eligible
Health Coverage (member doesn’t pay premium or monthly enrollment fees)
What are the requirements to serve as a Young Adult Success Corps Member?
Must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States
Must have successfully obtained a High School diploma or its equivalent prior to the start of the program
Must be under the Department of Probation supervision
Must agree to and pass a criminal background check
Must have the ability to serve part-time for the program term (generally M-F 9 AM - 5 PM)
Must have a strong motivation for making a positive difference in New York City
Must be willing to learn new skills and improve upon existing ones
Must complete a total of 900 hours
Read the City Service Corps Outcome Evaluation by the Urban Institute outlining how organizations benefit from the City Service Corps members’ service, the extent to which members gain valuable skills, and whether they continue to be civically engaged after completing the program.

This guide is based on the NYC Service AmeriCorps program City Service Corps, which was launched in 2015 and continues to successfully place members at City agencies. The Blueprint includes steps to conceptualizing and operationalizing an AmeriCorps program within local government, as well as evaluations of the City Service Corps program’s impact on a City agency’s efficiency and effectiveness.
